EIFS Replacement | Castia Stone

Home with tan stone siding
Project Details

This was an exterior renovation on a large home that was sided originally with EIFS cladding (Exterior Insulation & Finish System). EIFS is essentially 1 to 1 ½ inches of Styrofoam attached directly to the plywood sheathing with a finish stucco coat applied over the Styrofoam. Styrofoam attached to a wood substrate is a very poor choice in our climate as the Styrofoam traps (and absorbs) excess moisture creating a perfect environment for dry rot and mold to occur.

This project had a large amount of dry rot that had to be dealt with once the siding EIFS was removed. Once all dry rot was repaired we installed the Castia Stone siding and trim package. Castia Stone is a great option for homeowners who want to keep the Mediterranean look of stucco but eliminate the problems that come with the stucco system. Castia Stone has the ability to match all of the design forms of stucco (arches etc…) while maintaining that classic Mediterranean look. More importantly the Castia Stone system has a full ½” drainage plane built in to each piece insuring that any excess moisture can drain or evaporate out of the system (See item 1 below for more information). If you’re looking for classic Mediterranean design with a waterproof building envelope than Castia Stone may be the right choice for your project.
